If we can bail out corporations, if we can exceed our budget in military spending, we can surely set up financial assistance for fellow Americans displaced by natural disasters from low income backgrounds. I agree that the government is not an “insurance agency”, but we would all support this measure if it had ever affected us personally. Seeing this issue from the outside makes it easy to dismiss government assistance as unnecessary. Agree with other posts that the aid should go to relocation in communities that will not be impacted over and over, at least not in the near future. This is a waste of resources and a traumatic experience for disaster survivors.
