Any veteran who enrolls in college with a plan to use the GI bill is responsibly planning and funding their education and should absolutely be able to continue with that plan regardless of when the payment is made. The amount of the GI bill Payment’s should actually list the govt as the responsible party for the financial obligation for the corresponding number of credits that it covers and the institution should deal directly with them as to any penalties that would be imposed. The threat and accompanying stress of being released mid semester alone is something that they should never have to endure. These are responsible and conscientious students who are planning correctly, taking personal accountability and working hard to gain and education. To do anything other than reward such students by executing payments on time or excusing late payments, if necessary, is sending the wrong message to our youth. Reward them by honoring the contract that was agreed upon and allow them to reap the benefits of serving and working so hard, don’t punish them for heaven sake. They certainly wouldn’t have had the option of breaking their contract without consequence when serving!
