I was single mom and worked minimum wage jobs until my son was 7. Two yrs before that I was hired by a doc and spent 2 yrs proving myself and then told him I need 500 more a month or I need to quit and get a degree that will allow me to take care of my son and self. I had given him a list of my bills and he asked me how I had managed it and I told him mostly it is called creative survival. I worked for him as his only employee for 25 yrs and he took care of me and in return I took care of the practice. I can not even express how defeating it is to work full time and not be able to cover expenses. Minimum wage job meant 2 jobs in order to pay rent and food and if lucky utilities. If you have a child it makes more sense to be on welfare unless you have family to watch them. I did have family but it was still a struggle. This country worships money and people are judged according to what they have. We now have a man in charge who is a con man criminal and this was possible because of our values. Does not make me proud. I just believe that if people work full time they should be able to cover rent, food, utilities and basic needs. If we all shared medical costs thru taxes then small businesses would not burdened.
