The government should provide some financial support towards treatment for drug addicts. This money should go to states to use as they see fit for their states drug problem. Beyond that they are ill equipped to take on this issue. It is a disease. Let me tell you what it's like now for those of us with chronic illnesses who live a difficult life and pain medication can provide some relief. We are treated like criminals. We now have to see certified Pain Medicine specialists monthly(which is okay, even a good idea), but we also have to submit to random drug tests, bring in our medication bottles to be checked to make sure we are taking as prescribed and go to the same pharmacy even though our "private" medical information is online for all who have access to the pharmacies computers can see. It's demoralizing and makes having chronic debilitating pain even worse. It has driven me to the point of feeling like I couldn't go on like this. Think about trying to schedule a vacation six months in advance and trying to figure out when you can go so that it falls within the 30 day prescription of pain medicine that you will have during your vacation. If you are leaving on vacation in 2 days and you can't fill your prescription for 4 days then you have 2 choices, you go on vacation with pain medicine enough for 2 days and go without the remainder of your vacation or you reschedule a vacation. Neither is practical or fair to those of us who just need it to try and get by daily without severe pain. But we cannot get it early. Another demoralizing situation thanks to government regulations. Yes, opiate addiction was a huge problem, but not so much anymore because most doctors are afraid to prescribe because of excessive oversight. And so now those same opiate drug addicts have just moved on to heroin. And now they wonder why there's been exponential increase in heroin use. It's because addicts will find a new drug, they are that desperate.. Those who have legitimate diseases are suffering in the governments attempt to address drug abuse. They don't do anything well. Hold doctors responsible for prescribing responsibly and fund treatment so that addicts who will always find a way to get high get treated for their disease.
