Did you know "Millenial" women today are four times more likely to earn a BA degree than their grandmother's generation? A similar spike in higher education attainment exists for men, too. (Pew Research data). The greater number of people in undergraduate school is excellent for having a better educated public, but this also creates a bigger pool of BA holders and so having a BA degree is worth less than they were 20+ years ago. A BA degree is no longer the gateway to career success like it once was; for many in the Millennial generation (and all others after) , a graduate degree is necessary to make a real living. Getting a graduate degree is all too often no longer a means of advancing one's career; it is a means of starting it, but high costs keep countless people from pursuing a graduate degree, and this means more people struggling financially for the rest of their lives. Where ever will we get the money, however? Let's start with the $40 billion + set aside for the military. Let's stop prioritizing war over education and other basics of civil society.
