One of my volunteer efforts is advising a widow who is living on social security. She currently pays over half her income for a senior discounted apartment and struggles to pay her other living expenses. Any cut to her social security would be devastating. I am sure there are many seniors that are in the same situation. Without the social security they rely on, there will be a serious increase in senior homelessness and more seniors unable to afford health care. In addition to the moral issues this raises, it will also impact local governments, who will need to respond to all the social and health care problems that would create. This is a fragile population that absolutely needs social security and affordable health care. We cannot be considered a great nation if we neglect our vulnerable members.
