Like it or not the Second Amendment protects the American citizens right to own a firearm. Any restriction on this right without due process is not only a threat to the Second Amendment but a threat to all civil liberties that our government is supposed to defend. The fact that many of the people on this list are NOT dangerous to themselves or others only reinforces that opinion. With so many Americans diagnosed with mental illnesses we need to be very careful about what kind of restrictions we impose on them and who decides them. The majority of people who have granted power of attorney to their families are elderly citizens who have simply grown too senile or lack the energy to maintain their legal and financial affairs. Even if one does believe in increased gun control I don't think this measure will realistically have any impact on gun violence wether that is homicide or suicide.
