Its critical we continue to support the disabled in this country. Advocates have fought long and hard to develop disabled civil rights. One of its leaders just died this week. I recently had a case where a woman went blind from glaucoma and we had a very difficult time getting her any help at all because the eyes for the blind agency in our region had become defunded. I’m a nurse and am confounded when vital services are defunded. This is in New York State, Westchester county—one of richest counties in the entire U.S.. If we can’t get it done, who can? We have an obligation to support those who need assistance in times of crisis. It’s what makes us a civilized society.
Please fund the Helen Keller Foundation and for longer than five years—ten is a better number. Thank you.
