The protection is already in the U.S. Constitution. It's called the 1st Amendment. So I'm against another redundant law when one is already in place. And while some may say that if a business decides to not serve a gay couple then that business should lose its tax status. Well then what about all the businesses that prohibit open and concealed carry of firearms? That is another right provided by our Constitution: the 2nd Amendment. They don't lose status if they prohibit guns. The people just choose whether or not to go to that business.
