It matters tremendously to me as a human, a woman, and as a photographer. I have personally experienced abuse in the hands of men I've dated, by corrupt people in positions of power, and have recently made the personal decision not to work with a local model who intentionally posted questionable pictures of her and her lover in rape-theme photographs. The pictures themselves are not poor quality, but the subject matter is so offensive, I choose not to perpetuate this.
I met a beautiful local woman whom I have a bond with. We were both assaulted by the same man in the past. This man was sent to prison twice, for his acts of violence towards others and also for his participation in crimes involving bank fraud. He thought he would never get caught. He did.
There is absolutely no reason in the world that we in the media/fashion industry should promote this type of conduct. All it does is contribute to a more violent, negative, female-oppressive society. Those of you who think this is women's role, wake up and smell the coffee. Would you want this type of thing to happen to you, your girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, daughter, neighbor, niece? I think not.
These types of crimes costs everyone billions of dollars every year and puts our entire country at risk. Don't allow these things to happen. This is the United States of America, not Nazi Germany.
