Innocent pet owners are being separated from their four legged family members or evicted based on laws that virtually eliminate individual responsibility. Dogs and their owners should be disciplined based on their actions, not a stereotype. My community's HOA is now denying community benefits to it's residents who own "Pit Bulls" to avoid liability. We are expected to place our dogs on leashes and restrict them from social interaction or keep them in solitary confinement so the HOA doesn't face liability in the unlikely event there is an incident. In the many years this community has been around, there have been ZERO incidents regarding "Pit Bulls", yet this is a must handle issue. Not only that, new and existing owners cannot bring this breed into the community. As someone who rescues and fosters dogs, several of which are "Pit Bulls", this is extremely disturbing. I cannot bring an animal, who may otherwise face death, into my home because of Breed Specific Legislation.
These laws must be reworded to place responsibility on the owner, not the landlords or HOAs. It is unfair that these animals are directly punished over a stereotype which has been proven by several experts as unsubstantiated. Please reach out to representative to overturn this legislation and allow these animals to be treated equally and with the respect they deserve.
