The fundamental difference between dems and Republicans is that most democrats can feel compassion and empathy for someone in a worse situation then them. Republicans all seem to feel they were “self made” and didn’t need all the social programs. They are completely out of touch and don’t realize part of their self made / hard work etc. stems from them not realizing how fortunate they are for having access to a) inherited wealth, b) cronyism, c) access to a different level of education and opportunity because of their appearance/connections. This theory is evidenced by some of the changing norms- i.e., republicans did not come around on the LGBTQ marriage issue until someone in their family came out as gay. Republicans only seem to be passionate about things that affect them personally.
