The voters are in the trenches of everyday life and challenges, and not isolated, tweeted by mostly their loving constituents. Their dining room doesn't hint at real food costs, their parking garage gas doesn't hint at real gas prices. And they can piggyback on the taxi ride you're paying for. It's been a few years, but I doubt things are different from when I was in DC. The longer they "serve" the less touch with real life.
