I'm not certain we should abolish the EC entirely so much as tweak it a bit. At one point, the house of representatives, as well as the Electoral college, grew with population. The house was eventually frozen in order to prevent it from growing indefinitely, but I see no reason that should apply to the college as well. Return it to how it was once calculated, and we can move closer to having equal votes without completely ignoring the rural vote. Or perhaps it's time we admit that one president cannot represent 370 million people effectively.
