What’s the story?

\nMore than 80 percent of Americans want unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. to be given \"the chance to become U.S. citizens if they meet certain requirements over a period of time,” according to a new Gallup poll.\n

What are the numbers?

Gallup randomly sampled 1,022 people between January 21 and 27 and found:

81% support a path to citizenship for immigrants in the U.S. illegally \"the chance to become U.S. citizens if they meet certain requirements over a period of time.\"
60% oppose significant new construction on border walls
75% percent of the public favors the hiring of \"significantly more\" border patrol agents.
