What’s the story?

Customs and Border Protection paid $13.6 million to an outside contractor this year to hire thousands of additional Border Patrol agents, but only two agents have been hired so far.
The Office of the Inspector General said the company, Accenture, is “nowhere near satisfying its 7,500-person hiring goal over the next 5 years,” as the firm had laid out in its $297 million contract.
The IG report said CBP \"risks wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a hastily approved contract that is not meeting its proposed performance expectations.\"

What is CBP saying?

CBP officials disagreed with the inspector general's conclusion, arguing that Accenture may have recruited only two staffers, but they also set up a new hiring process that helped move “thousands” of applicants into the pipeline for consideration.
Despite this pushback, the CBP agreed to all four recommendations from the IG to address the situation.
