Forfeiture laws have been expanding in scope in many of the states that enforce them i.e. Texas. There is very little in place to limit excessive abuse. Moreover, having ones home and transportation seized by the state has nothing to do with rehabilitation of the offender, one could argue easily that it limits the accused from becoming a productive member of society after his/her sentence. If the Supreme Court allows states to ignore the 14th amendment the results will create a cottage industry with incentives for profit and arrests.
