In yesterday's Daily Countable, we asked what you were thankful for. We'll get to your non-sarcastic responses a bit further down. First, we wanted to share what we're giving thanks for:

That's right. Because even when there are such incredible divisions in American politics, even when it seems like the emotional roller coaster never stops, and even as policy decisions seem ever more critical, it's you, the wonderful users of Countable, who restore our faith in our nation. You are building civic awareness and responsibility into your daily lives, one action at a time. And that's the best American tradition of all.

\nPresident Trump recently participated in the annual White House turkey pardon, granting a reprieve to Peas and Carrots. According to the White House Historical Association, Abraham Lincoln was the first president to pardon a turkey (although the tradition didn’t start until much later in U.S. history). Apparently, someone brought a live turkey to the Lincoln White House for Christmas in 1863, but Lincoln’s son Tad was so horrified by the idea of killing and eating the bird that Honest Abe decided to spare the bird’s life. \nAt least 36 students have come down with chickenpox in a North Carolina school where many families claim religious exemption from vaccines. The Buncombe County Health Department said exemptions from vaccination were a contributing factor to the the state's worst chickenpox outbreak since the vaccine became available more than 20 years ago. While scientific evidence shows that vaccines are safe and effective, 18 states currently allow parents to opt-out of vaccinating their children for “philosophical reasons.” Do you support vaccine exemptions?

\nThe FBI has now categorized the “Proud Boys” as “an extremist group with ties to White Nationalism,” according to a document from a Washington State sheriff’s office. The group describes themselves as “Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.” They are explicitly anti-feminist, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-transgender, and anti-leftist. According to an executive summary of the FBI report, \"Proud Boys members have contributed to the recent escalation of violence at political rallies held on college campuses, and in cities like Charlottesville, Virginia, Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.\" Read about the group, and FBI's designation, then answer: Should the Proud Boys be considered an extremist group?\n
