    The number of gun deaths in the US is ridiculously high. Most of these deaths are not from mass shootings, but from firearm suicides and murders. According to the American Public Health Association, guns kill more than 38,000 people per year and cause approximately 85,000 injuries. There is some very good evidence on effective policies that could have helped prevent some incidents. Despite congressional limitations on gun research, scientists have attempted to study the effects of gun-control legislation in the US and in other places around the world. If gun violence is not a public health issue then what is? The problem appears to be that the NRA is allowed to exercise an enormous amount of influence - purely by its financial incentives given to politicians. This must be stopped. Remove the power from the NRA!
