Should the U.S. Decriminalize Public Sex?

The bottom line is that consensual sexual acts in public is a cultural matter. In many cultures, this simply isn't considered an important issue. In the US which has puritan colonial roots, public sexual acts had very high religious importance in a negative way. So the question is do we fall slave to religious traditions when the constitution clearly states the separation of church and state? One can think whatever they like about seeing such things, but to punish public sexual acts as a CRIME can only be asserting these religious beliefs. Therefore I am in favor of removing the criminal aspect of it and at the very least reducing the possible punishments to minor infractions in the event it disturbs others. At least make it legal in cars that belong to one of those engaging in sexual activity.
