Vice President Mike Pence announced on Thursday that “establishing the Space Force is an idea whose time has come.\"

\r\n

Speaking alongside Defense Secretary James Mattis at the Pentagon, Pence said the Defense Department has begun the process of creating the Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces by 2020.

\r\n

In a 15-page report outlining the creation of the Space Force, the Pentagon said it plans to \"usher in a new age of space technology\" in order \"to deter and if necessary degrade, deny, disrupt, destroy, and manipulate adversary capabilities to protect U.S. interests, assets, and way of life.\"

\nThe army is temporarily halting the discharges of immigrant recruits. A memo directs high-ranking officials to immediately \"suspend processing\" discharges of recruits who enlisted in a special immigrant program that provides an expedited path to citizenship. But retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel Margaret Stock - who helped create the program - said the memo serves as an \"admission by the Army that they've improperly discharged hundreds of soldiers.\" Click here for the full story.
\nThe National Rifle Association plans to spend at least $1 million on television ads supporting the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The ads will target four vulnerable Democratic senators and one key Republican. \nStudents at the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School will no longer begin their day with the Pledge of Allegiance. In a statement, elementary campus president Lara Zelski told parents the decision was made “in an effort to begin our day as a fully inclusive and connected community.” Should students be required to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance?
