We simply must consider the size of schools today. The average size of secondary schools in this country is at or over 1,000 enrollment. How can students know each other, care about each other, and be a true community, when there are so many of them? Smaller school sizes will allow for more positive environments, where students don’t feel alone, misunderstood, or angry. In our diverse society, we must create spaces for people to know each other as individuals. Schools should be at the forefront of such a movement.
