Greetings, on this fine Tuesday, folks. Big happenings afoot in your government: make sure your Reps know what you think!

One Big Thing

\r\n

The tax bill. That's it. That's the One Big Thing on the Senate's plate right now, with Republican leaders scrambling and horse-trading to get it passed. The majority party can only afford to lose two votes, with it's razor thin margin in the Senate — but several more than that are wavering on the bill. That means crunch time.\r\nStepping in to the crunch today is President Donald Trump. He'll be up on the other side of Pennsylvania avenue, trying to convince those wandering Senators to pass the tax package.

\r\n

And even if the GOP does get it passed, that sets up a potentially tougher hurdle: negotiation with House Republicans over final details. But wait! There's More! Congress is in a frenzy to pass several other giant bills before they break in less than two weeks. Here's what's on the schedule.

On the Radar

\r\n

Is the FAA the nation's most effective agency? That's the implication of this story about how the Federal Aviation Administration is being stymied by one of President Trump's early Executive Orders. The order directs agencies to strike two regulations for every one it instates. Problem is, the FAA has a change to make, but can't find two to strip — and the new regulation is meant to help commercial airlines hire military-trained pilots. Read more about it here.

President Trump goes to the U.S. Capitol where he will speak with the Republican Senate Caucus.

\nVoting on a bill to allow federal law enforcment grants to be used by local agencies to provide mental health services for law enforcement agencies.

\nConfirmation vote on the nomination of Gregory Katsas to be Circuit Court Judge for the D.C. Circuit.
