The wording of the question is incendiary. I support studying the possibility that there are funds that can be more appropriately used to support community services for some individuals instead of police action and jails. Last week I witnessed in my neighborhood a police helicopter circling overhead for about 30 minutes while several police cruisers were out looking for a mentally ill woman who apparently was a regular runaway. How many thousands were spent on this search? I think most sane people would agree that this is not the best solution. That's what this discussion is all about. None or a miniscule number of people are advocating totally abolishing police departments. Start dealing in reality to solve the problems rather than making incendiary statements
