Rubbish. As school advances and high school students are introduced to civics and current events, discussions can’t avoid complex topics like the civil war, racism, and politics. Transparent rumination over our flaws is what makes our country great. It’s the only process by which we can make things better. And this background education pays off when some students go on to serve on school boards, city councils, run for mayor, and, who knows, maybe become president. The alternative is ignorance and the likelihood of repeating the past rather than improving on it.
