What's the story?

\nThe Trump administration filed a late-night brief Thursday calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate the Affordable Care Act - also known as Obamacare - move that would strip health insurance from more than 20 million people.\n
Solicitor General Noel Francisco, the government's chief advocate before the Supreme Court, argued in a brief that because Congress in 2017 invalidated the law’s individual coverage mandate — by dropping a tax penalty for those without health insurance — \"it necessarily follows that the rest of the ACA must also fall.\"

\"The individual mandate is not severable from the rest of the act. The remainder of the ACA should not be allowed to remain in effect.\"

The case before the high court began with a lawsuit brought by 20 GOP-led states calling for the elimination of the ACA. A federal judge in Texas previously ruled in favor of the Republican lawsuit, but SCOTUS temporarily blocked the law from being struck down while it reviews the case.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said in a statement:

I fear that a citizenry focused on the “here-and-now” is easily tricked by short term benefits that have negative long-term consequences. I fear that our legislators are more concerned about buffing their constituents than looking out for the long-term welfare of our country- and are way too eager to provide those short-term benefits to the “here-and-now” crowd.\nI fear that honor is generally being sacrificed/replaced by expediency. I hear politicians eloquently argue for one side of an issue and later, when it’s to their benefit, just as eloquently argue for the opposite side. OK, so they are good at arguing- but what is that they actually believe? What is it that they actually stand for? An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
