The JUSTICE act is a weak attempt at reform. By passing this act, we’ll mute any real progress towards police reform. We need bigger change: larger punishments for not using body cameras, not creating better learning and educating opportunities for their officers, and not holding misconduct accountable; Banning not just no-knock warrants but banning qualified immunity; creating state incentives around mental health, education, and job placement programs for meeting regulations; and demilitarization of police forces across this country.
