Data is needed 1st to study the problem as not all states are tracking race of COVID-19 patients, most likely caused by environmental variables (healthcare, housing, etc). Surprisingly only 28 states and NYC collect, “race and ethnicity-stratified Covid-19 mortality” but based on this limited data it shows black peoples are 3.5 times as likely to contract Covid-19 in a recent study currently under peer review (links below). Contact tracing will also provide root causes of where & from who like at home in a multigenerational home, customer facing work, mass transit, church, etc. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine environmental factors account for this: 1) Crowded living conditions 2) Working in essential jobs 3) Inconsistent healthcare access 4) Chronic health conditions 5) Stress (income inequality, discrimination, violence & institutional racism contribute to chronic stress in people of color)
