What is frequently overlooked is the fact that confederate symbols, whether in name or physical representations, Ever present in our country serve as historical references and constant reminders of a past filled with political, social, and economic division. The whole scale removal of any evidence of past associations of injustice serves only to bury these painful realities to the disservice of the evolving historical fabric of our nation. George Washington himself had many slaves. Are we now to remove him off the one dollar bill and the face of Mount Rushmore?
