In the time of the Framer’s, the phrase ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ referred to crimes or misdemeanors committed by a government official elected to or assigned to a ‘high’ office. ‘Misdemeanors’ had a different meaning then they do today and referred to misuse of the authorities granted to the official office by either the office holder or people that represent the office holder. The authorities granted to our county’s highest office are quite formidable and allow the office holder great latitude in the use and application of those authorities. That is why ‘checks and balances’ were made part of the Constitution; strictly to hold a ‘high’ office holder in check and accountable whenever they abuse the authorities granted to them by violating law, overriding constitutional mandates, assuming authorities not granted under the Constitution, allowing foreign influence over our election processes, or putting their own self interests before our Country’s interests or Constitutional mandates. By definition, the term ‘misdemeanors’ refers to ‘abuses of authority’ and Impeachment being the remedy for committing ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’. … … … So what the hell is Dershowitz talking about? Constitutional Scholar? I think more like a Constitutional bullshit artist. I mean, anyone who has ever taken a basic Civics class knows better. … … … Let’s stop the deflecting, process challenges and politicking. Focus on getting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Stop with textbook Russian disinformation tactics of deflection, projections, ‘firehouse’ of alternative ‘facts’, and all those crazy conspiracy theories based on unrelated ‘factoid’s which are irrelevant, taken out of context, or carefully cherry picked. Focus on the specifics of: Who did what?; When did they do it?; Why did they do it?; What was trump’s role? Put all pertinent facts on the table first! Then consider judgement.
