What's the story?

The House Judiciary Committee approved two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in regards to his conduct with Ukraine.
The party-line 23-17 vote completes the House committees' impeachment activity. The full House will hold a floor vote next week, likely on Wednesday, though the timeline could still change.
\nDemocrats are trying to build a case that Trump leveraged military and diplomatic aid to Ukraine in exchange for investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and a debunked conspiracy theory alleging Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election. Republicans, meanwhile, argue that Trump committed no offenses worthy of impeachment.
During the 14 hours of Judiciary debate about altering the articles, each of the five amendments introduced by Republicans were struck down by the committee. A single changed passed: substituting \"Donald John Trump\" for \"Donald J. Trump.\"
On Thursday, a day before the Judiciary's vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that there was \"no chance\" the president would be removed from office.

“The case is so darn weak coming from the House,” McConnell said in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. “We know how it's going to end. There's no chance the president's going to be removed from office.”

I fear that a citizenry focused on the “here-and-now” is easily tricked by short term benefits that have negative long-term consequences. I fear that our legislators are more concerned about buffing their constituents than looking out for the long-term welfare of our country- and are way too eager to provide those short-term benefits to the “here-and-now” crowd.\nI fear that honor is generally being sacrificed/replaced by expediency. I hear politicians eloquently argue for one side of an issue and later, when it’s to their benefit, just as eloquently argue for the opposite side. OK, so they are good at arguing- but what is that they actually believe? What is it that they actually stand for? An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
