The ban on any type of weapon of mass destruction is a good thing but I’m not sure there a partners which such agreements can be reach. The circumstance that existed between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. was very specific. No other countries other than the U.S. and U.S.S.R. signed such a treaty and there were other countries with nuclear weapons. The elements required today to make such an agreement do not exist. The Treaties of the past had something in common that today’s world does not contain: stability, countries of a know capacity, desire to avoid the use of nuclear weapons, cost avoidance, secure and stable boarders and no open threats to neighboring countries. As for the U.S., who in their right mind would sign such an important agreement with the Trump Administration and expect it to be honored. How many about faces have we seen him make over the last three years, how many treaties have we seen him abrogate, and how much ranting and raving on Twitter has he done that has been damaging to the U.S. Trump keeps no agreement unless it benefits him personally.
