What’s the story?

House Democrats are set to begin the first public hearings of their impeachment probe into President Donald Trump, something the commander in chief railed against on Friday.

\"They shouldn’t be having public hearings. This is a hoax,\" Trump said as he left the White House for events in Georgia. \"This is just like the Russian witch hunt. This is just a continuation.\"

Trump’s remarks contracted earlier statements by the White House and GOP lawmakers, who have been criticizing what, until now, has been closed-door hearings.
Three witnesses who gave private depositions to impeachment investigators - William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine; George Kent, the State Department's deputy assistant secretary handling Ukraine; and Marie Yovanovitch, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine - will testify next week.
\nThe 30-second recap: A whistleblower complaint, which led to a House impeachment inquiry, accuses White House officials of trying to conceal \"politically sensitive\" information about President Donald Trump's July 25th phone call with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky. During the phone call, Trump asked Ukraine's leader to \"do us a favor\" and work with Attorney General William Barr and Trump's personal attorney, Rudolph Giuliani, to \"look into\" former Vice President Joe Biden and his family.

I fault our founders for a failure to specify that public service in an elected capacity should be a privilege rather than a career and I fault a partisan Supreme Court for bringing unlimited private funding into our elections. Through all of my parents’ differing political and other opinions, the one thing that stands out in my memory of growing up... I fear that a citizenry focused on the “here-and-now” is easily tricked by short term benefits that have negative long-term consequences. I fear that our legislators are more concerned about buffing their constituents than looking out for the long-term welfare of our country- and are way too eager to provide those short-term benefits to the “here-and-now” crowd.\nI fear that honor is generally being sacrificed/replaced by expediency. I hear politicians eloquently argue for one side of an issue and later, when it’s to their benefit, just as eloquently argue for the opposite side. OK, so they are good at arguing- but what is that they actually believe? What is it that they actually stand for? An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
