What’s the story?

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) plan to introduce a resolution Thursday “condemning the House of Representatives’ closed door, illegitimate impeachment inquiry.”
McConnell has called the House impeachment proceedings “grossly unfair” and said Trump “has legitimate concerns about the process.”
GOP lawmakers have turned their criticism, of late, to the mostly closed-door impeachment process taking place in the House. President Donald Trump took to twitter Thursday to praise House Republicans for storming a secure room where depositions were being held.

What is Graham saying?

In an interview with The Washington Post, Graham said his resolution will condemn the process he claims is “out of line with what we have done in the past and denies the chance for the president to defend himself.”

“They’re creating a shadow process that, I think, is just denying basic fairness. And we’re urging them to go back to what worked before,” Graham said.

House Republicans conducted closed-door depositions during the 1998 impeachment of Bill Clinton, but Graham dismissed the apparent hypocrisy, saying: “I don’t even think this is really close. … If you’ve got a good case, show it.”

Graham also made his argument for a resolution on “Fox News”:
\"This resolution puts the Senate on record condemning the House. ... Here's the point of the resolution: Any impeachment vote based on this process, to me, is illegitimate, is unconstitutional, and should be dismissed in the Senate without a trial,” Graham told Sean Hannity.

“We cannot allow future presidents and this president to be impeached based on an inquiry in the House that’s never been voted upon, that does not allow the president to confront the witnesses against him, to call witnesses on his behalf, and cross-examine people who are accusing him of misdeeds,” he added.

I hear politicians eloquently argue for one side of an issue and later, when it’s to their benefit, just as eloquently argue for the opposite side. OK, so they are good at arguing- but what is that they actually believe? What is it that they actually stand for? An honorable person has values that persist even when it is not convenient or expedient. An honorable person has a moral compass that stops them from doing something wrong even if it is not illegal.
