Do You Support Privatizing Fannie and Freddie?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were agencies created to help lower and middle income people gain the security associated with home ownership. They were not created to provide business opportunities for wealthy investors. What compelling reason could there be to make this change? This is very much like the privatization of our prison system which was resulted in assured and steadily growing wealth for the owners, increasingly deplorable care of inmates and a systemic incentive to incarcerate as many people as possible for minor crimes- which has contributed our country’s grossly high per capita incarceration rate compared to other countries with government run facilities. I see the suggested privatization of these financial service institutions resulting in great abuses as well. Our country should be working to increase opportunities for the less fortunate, less well connected and less family-entitled to get ahead; a rising tide really does lift all boats. I see this proposal as a wanton attack on the elimination of societal barriers to an individual’s or family’s ability to succeed; and which also provides preferred investors a new, risk free source for subsidized profiteering. NO. NO. NO. Stop ripping out the very soul of our country. I will be so glad when all-you-all are behind bars in one of those for-profit privately held prisons.
