I guess I am confused. Another nation wants a seat in the US Congress. Are members of the Cherokee Nation counted in the Census? If so, aren;t they already represented by a congressman when we create congressional districts every ten years? As far as honoring existing treaties, why is this coming up now? Has the Cherokee Nation been fighting for entrance to the US as a state or territory for centuries or did something recently trigger this interest?
