One day while at the grocery store, there was a elderly man in a wheelchair there, with a small coin purse in his palm, and I asked him if I could be of any help to him, and he said, "Well, I was going to buy myself a $3.29 chinese plate from the deli, but I just picked up my medicine, and I haven't even bought my disposable diapers yet, and so I guess I'm done." The look of despair, and shock in his eyes made my heart literally hurt (extreme heartache) for him. I wheeled him to the...

I wheeled him to the chinese deli, and bought he and myself that plate he wanted, and shared it together. Then, I spoke to the Mgr of the grocery store, and pleaded with him to allow the man to get his disposable diapers he needed, and so the mgr took the man to the isle, and got him what he needed. I've never forgotton that. I've witnessed many senior citizens since then when they are attempting to get their meds, or pay rent, buy groceries, gas, or even a $1 birthday card for their grandchildren, they just don't have it. These aren't people who squander their money. These are people, whether senior, or disabled, or living with an illness, and need for the companies (many, many companies could) and and all of us who can help, to help. Please help.

I would suggest not voting for the candidate who thinks 47% of Americans are lazy. These seniors are in the 47% of Americans he was talking about.

I don't beleive that he was talking about the seniors who have worked their entire lives. social security is not an entitlement program. is is a forced retiredment program which the working people are forced to participate in if they are employed.

Yes it became law a long time ago but originally when I was young and paid into it, it was individual accounts and if you never worked you would not collect from it. They changed that and started giving amounts to a spouse even if they never paid into Social Security and other things. I am really angry about that one. We deserve what we paid into the fund. I paid for over 40 years into that fund expecting to retire with at least Social Security to hear people say it is forced and yada yada...

Oh and if you had your own business you could pay into the fund or from any exempt job as well. It was up to the individual. Those that hire workers in the home that fall under certain parameters are required to pay this as well. It was created so everyone could at least have something to retire on but changes were made and exceptions. It really makes me mad.

Geraldine people don't just get social security for being retired, they get it for disabilities as well... The reason that people have to participate in it is so that by the time the able bodied working person reaches retirement age, they have money to live off of. I think you are soley misunderstood. I am 35 going on 36 and I have been on disability since 2001 and I don't know where I'd be without it and I'm on it not because I'm lazy but because I can't work and I'm terminally ill with...

I am 35 going on 36 and I have been on disability since 2001 and I don't know where I'd be without it and I'm on it not because I'm lazy but because I can't work and I'm terminally ill with life threatening medical condition. Look at everyone who is on it for the same reason I am or they have a mental illness that prevents them from being in society and holding a job... it's their only source of income. So no it's not just a retirement program.. it's a primary source of income for those who truly need it. Wouldn't you like to have something to look forward to living on when retire?

Many seniors cannot afford to live in this country due to the cost of living in this country. That is a crime.

My father 'lives' on Social Security. If he did not live in an apartment in a complex that I manage, he would not be able to afford rent, let alone food.

I believe that there should be a sizable increase for seniors and those on SSDI. Prices are increasing dramatically but for those who are elderly or disabled, they are having to stretch their money twice as far.

It is important to me because I am one of the seniors trying to live on Social Security and because of the weather situation in the US food has gone up. We should not be denied because our government took money out of the Social Security fund. They need to put all of it back.
