yes we all have great empathy but want better understanding, and i full agree about being more open as early as possible. because there is always possibility and mutable way to deal with the matter in the early stage before it become uncontrollable, i think the time have come to free our conservative mind from its primitive view of the world and to look with new eyes to the problem. wish all the best of life and health. Good luck Angelina with you offers, and we will be there to support you the best we can

She sucks, she did an absolutely wrong thing. I can't believe a doctor did this!!!
Cancer is not certainly so easy to predict. I'm so disgusted and I fear emulation. We doctors should take a stand against this act of heavy madness, done probably by a woman with problem of dependence or other mental ones.
DISGUSTING -MEDIA SHOULD NOT TALK ABOUT THIS

Genetics enters in the "predisposition" to breast cancer, and only in part, there are other factors obviously. Plus, we're not talking about a single gene. This is madness: there is early detection - horrendous and presumptuous act.

If a male doctor had the chance of getting testicular cancer, do you think he would cut off his ba**s as preventative medical care? HELL NO !!!! But he will cut off a woman's breasts as preventative care, no problem. What's wrong with this picture is what's wrong wirh healthcare. They are in it for the money not the health of patients !!!

I totally agree - I was fired because I talked too much about those monsters. I am not like them and I lost everything. Only, female doctors are the same as we males are.

IGNORANCE KILLS !! Know your body fight for life.

Many members of our family had been survivers, so when my daughter got breast cancer which was a devestating shock and kick in the stomach. We thought we could fight it. Unfortunatly it was not to be; at the end after 9 months of fighting cancer it was discovered she had the BRACA gene. But it transfered its self to other parts. she sadly passed away just aged 21 years old the most coragous lady any one will meet. She worried and thought about me for years She took on the fight of the gene test establishments. they should test people who asked about it especially worried for our next generation. At the end her legacy won and our family was tested. thank you litte girl; you have given great knowledge to our family and its generations. it is up to them to use it. xxxxx

Angelina Jolie is one of the most powerful woman living here on earth. I embraced your courage. You are strong and unique. You are such a wonderful example of all women living here on earth. You face your fear instead of hiding behind the camaras. I salute you.

Angelina did what she thought was the right thing for her and her family. We never know what we might do about something until we walk in their shoes! I think she's a very brave lady and I admire her!

I'm sorry to hear this. Cancer is a very aggressive disease. There are those on here who have stated she should have waited until she had cancer to get the double mastectomy. I think that a lot of times cancer spreads so quickly, that by the time you realize you have it, its too far spread to deal with. There are those that fight so hard, go through both chemo and radiation, hospital stays, etc. to still pass away. I can certainly understand Angelina Jolie's concerns in wanting to...

I think that a lot of times cancer spreads so quickly, that by the time you realize you have it, its too far spread to deal with. There are those that fight so hard, go through both chemo and radiation, hospital stays, etc. to still pass away. I can certainly understand Angelina Jolie's concerns in wanting to prevent/prolong cancer so that she may spend as much time with her loved ones as possible. 87%, as well as a family history of breast cancer, and many having passed away, I think that she was brave in making the decision she did. Even if others disagree or feel that she was wrong, it is her body and her decision. To each their own.

I've had breast cancer which I survived, but I dont think I would have had my breasts removed just because my mom had breast cancer. Obviously I still haven't and choose a lumpectomy and believe angelie over reacted to the prospect that she may have cancer in the future!!

I too have had breast cancer, and survived.... Twice. Then I was tested because I insisted and I carry this genetic mutation as well. My breasts are gone, as are all my other female organs, but I am alive to see another tomorrow. This BRCA 1 gene is also responsible for an increase in colon and pancreatic cancers, above the general populations, by a rather large %. So Angelina, I applaud your brave decision. The chance is to great that she would have the cancer, her children will have their mom.

I, too, am a breast cancer survivor. I was 32 and pregnant when diagnosed. I chose bilateral mastectomies with reconstruction, and am so grateful. I work in surgery and have seen some women come back up to 3 times to get the margins clear of cancer, with a lumpectomy! I am negative for BRCA1, but was tested just in case for the future of my kids. ( 2 sons) due to the increased chance of breast and prostate cancer in them or their future kids. Way to take a proactive stance. Angelina!

well Marlio. thats your oppinion but please still check, because no one with the gene is out of the woods with or without breasts. my 21 year old daughter got breast cancer she had the gene it was found at the end also she had one of her breast removed it was not in lymphnodes but ended in other parts of the body leading to her passing away last September after a brave 9 months battling. dont think it cant come back. good luck to you x

Lillian M. Torres you are so right. To each their own. You know what is best for your body, sometimes you just get a gut feeling. After seeing her loved ones pass away from breast cancer, some of which had fought hard to get rid of the cancer, and then hearing she was at very very high risk of getting it; I think it was all just too overwhelming for her. Were I in her shoes I would have felt just as strongly about getting the procedure done, to hopefully prevent/prolong getting breast...

As I've told others, even if she does get cancer at least she will know she did all that she could to prevent it....
