I don't find Angelina's decision to have a double mastectomy courageous, brave, or any other term that makes it sound as though she did anything special. The statistics went from a 65% chance to 88% chance of DEVELOPING breast cancer. She got a boob job without the negative press. If she wants to be brave or heroic then let her pay for some treatment for those that have it. That's a hero. Provide for children of the families going through treatment. Offer to pay for a women or man that has it to receive a double. My daughter HAS BREAST CANCER. She was only offered the removal of one breast. Now when a lump appears in the remaining breast it's tests and biopsies all over again.

Although it is true that she is brave, her decision is driven by fear and dare I say - ignorance.
She is also a public figure, leading by example. The whole theory about genes and cancer is new and unproven. Meanwhile "brave" women are rushing to mutilate their body.
Does anyone really believe her body won't react to this? Or that she does not look in the mirror and doubt her decision in her private moments?
It is all grand and great to act the part of a hero, and totally irresponsible to endorse a dubious practice like breast mutilation.

Yes, its true; there is still an uncertainty with cancer, and cancer cells can spread to other parts. Although it is new and unproven, she is still a brave woman, not sure if I would want to do this procedure myself.

I think whatever the current level of proof, the opportunity for women who identify a familial risk of female cancers to be tested for a gene, which then empowers them to make a decision about their own bodies and preventative measures they might take, can only be a good thing - as long as they are counselled and it is only promoted for women where a high risk is identified, as I am assured by a consultant happens. Whether it's brave or not is a matter of opinion, but I'm sure the decision...

Whether it's brave or not is a matter of opinion, but I'm sure the decision to "mutilate their bodies" as one commentator puts it is not taken lightly by any woman. See our story today on the issue and another tomorrow on a Tees hospital consultant who is reassuring women over this. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/2013/05/15/nunthorpe-sisters-agonised-like-angelina-jolie-over-mastectomy-84229-33334238/

Anyone who has cancer, is brave. My mom has cancer, and she has a very positive attitude! This is the best way to deal with it, besides medicine of course.

She sucks, she did an absolutely wrong thing. I can't believe a doctor did this!!!
Cancer is not certainly so easy to predict. I'm so disgusted and I fear emulation. We doctors should take a stand against this act of heavy madness, done probably by a woman with problem of dependence or other mental ones.
DISGUSTING -MEDIA SHOULD NOT TALK ABOUT THIS

Genetics enters in the "predisposition" to breast cancer, and only in part, there are other factors obviously. Plus, we're not talking about a single gene. This is madness: there is early detection - horrendous and presumptuous act.

If a male doctor had the chance of getting testicular cancer, do you think he would cut off his ba**s as preventative medical care? HELL NO !!!! But he will cut off a woman's breasts as preventative care, no problem. What's wrong with this picture is what's wrong wirh healthcare. They are in it for the money not the health of patients !!!

I totally agree - I was fired because I talked too much about those monsters. I am not like them and I lost everything. Only, female doctors are the same as we males are.

Angelina is brave and impulsive. This whole thing about removing the breasts to avoid cancer is not real science but shooting in the dark. It is a theory with many theories, also scientific, that question and disprove it.
For a different view on genes and how they work, watch "The Biology of Belief" on YouTube. For a new approach to breast cancer, read German New Medicine or watch their video on breast cancer for all the details on THAT view (www.learninggnm.com)

I would NEVER remove my breasts based on the theories of a medical system that for a 100+ years now keeps looking for a cure in the same old places and does not find one. You know who does that - trying over and over again things that don't work... stupid people.
One day we will all forget these sad women who lopped off their breasts and they will live with their mistake, believing they were heroic. Unless some other cancer takes them while they are so sadly distracted. If you watch, you will see it happen...

Many members of our family had been survivers, so when my daughter got breast cancer which was a devestating shock and kick in the stomach. We thought we could fight it. Unfortunatly it was not to be; at the end after 9 months of fighting cancer it was discovered she had the BRACA gene. But it transfered its self to other parts. she sadly passed away just aged 21 years old the most coragous lady any one will meet. She worried and thought about me for years She took on the fight of the gene test establishments. they should test people who asked about it especially worried for our next generation. At the end her legacy won and our family was tested. thank you litte girl; you have given great knowledge to our family and its generations. it is up to them to use it. xxxxx
