When India already has a rich variety of bananas that can feed millions of people that are grown naturally, why the need for genetically altered bananas?....Naturally grown bananas have evolved over millions of years but genetically altered species can have effects on future generations for millions of years beyond human control! "Strike while the iron is hot" i.e. need for "Prevention is better than cure" is felt.
Instead of genetically modifying a particular fruit or vegetable, where the results are unpredictable and dangerous we should try to combine fruits with other eatables ..For example the concept of Fruit salads and Fruit juices are popular so we can think of a combination of Fruits and vegetables and green leaves like spinach and call it a Fruit-Vegetable salad or Fruit-Vegetable Health Drink.
Banana is poor man's fruit in India and when we have so many time-tested indigenous varieties of bananas, we don't want to run the risk of being at the mercy of some unscrupulous multinational totally controlling the seeds etc. of GM banana!
I sign this petion & support the cause taken up by Rana Sukhendra Pratap Singh .....
They are playing with India,s basic profession of agriculture, lands are being given to corporate s in the name of development & basic asset of agriculture is being ruined by policy & poli-trics, now they want to attack & bring the agriculture to dooms. Genetic, what genetic, what we are producing is without genesis, Genetic crops should be banned for saving our own centuries old practice of growing & cultivation. Save India by shoeing off genetic crops fundamentals.
When we can produce enough with indigenously developed varieties there is no need to go for GMO varieties harmful for environment
Why we need genetically modified bananas already india having much verity of tasteful bananas..spreading of genetically modified bananas in India is nothing but spoiling healthy environment n health of people.please dont encourage this type of altered food..
NO GM crops for us pls
True.. I do my best to buy different varieties of bananas and plantains (rather then the normal cavendish, nendran and elaichi) whenever possible not only to enjoy the different varieties, but also to keep them in demand so that we can ensure and encourage the supply of different varieties in the future.
Simply avoid the disaster
