What is sad I that if it was a while child they would have excused it as a mistake but because it is a child of color they want to ruin her life an future. There will eventually be a huge cost to all for the evil that is being done now.

Mr. Fowler I agree that if we don't stand together we all pay but it is always someone who is not of color and doesn't even know what its like to treated differently based on that fact alone that says "it doesn't matter". I wish that were true because the world we live in would be a better place altogether

What's next, dropping science from the curriculum because it is violent? Don't make a bigger mistake than you already have, drop the charges.

TRUE WHERE'S THE RESPONSIBILTY OF HER TEACHER !!? SHE HAD NO GUIDANCE OF HER TEACHER, TO TELL HER THAT ADDING AMONIA WITH A HOUSE HOLD CLEANING CHEMICAL WAS DANGEROUS !! AFTERALL SHE'S ONLY 16 YRSEEN OLD !! MAYBE HER TEACHER SHOULD OF BROUGHT UP ON THOSE CHARGES IF YOU WANT TO GET TECHINICAL !!!! HE OR SHE IS THE ONE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE IN CHARGE OF OUR KIDS WHILE THEY ARE IN SCHOOL !!!

I am not fully aware of all the circumstances, but the demonstration of mixing a solution with aluminum foil is an old old backyard chemical reaction. It liberates hydrogen, which can be used in clever ways (such as filling a balloon, making it lighter than air.)

Definitely better caution should have been used. What is more disturbing is that is seems there was no informed adult guidance). If the intent was to demonstrate the reaction, then folks need to get a grip. My first-off...

Definitely better caution should have been used. What is more disturbing is that is seems there was no informed adult guidance). If the intent was to demonstrate the reaction, then folks need to get a grip. My first-off impression is that this is much ado based on ignorance of old chemical reaction demos. But I will stress that this demonstration must be handled with greater care. It's not without hazards.

Were there reasons to suspect the student of destructive tendencies? If not, people need to look a bit more carefully and calmly. I was driven to this by its implications of science illiteracy. Somebody should have reviewed this reaction.

Another example of Zero-Tolerance run amuck. Why is the district expelling this student when even the principal is declaring her to be a good kid who did nothing worse than make a bad choice.

What a crock. This was not a crime, much less a felony or two, a 16 year old high school student is not an adult. This was a science project, It is called learning, education, experimentation, the scientific method, etc. That's what school is for. What are we wasting resources on this kind of crap. Stop harassing kids and start going after real criminals. This is just stupid, people !!!

This is simply wrong, this young lady should not be suspended, and should not face criminal charges. What a waste of payer dollars and what a way to tarnish a promising student unnecessarily, simply because a wanna be cop blew an innocent situation out of proportion! I pray she receives justice and is able to go back to school, and experience the bright future she deserves.

Even this young girl's principal has stated that she made an honest/careless/mistake, and that her actions were harmless and accidental. Might of fact, her principal, Mr. Pritchard is the one putting out this petetion for us to sign, stating that the Polk Police Department, need to drop all the charges against this student, Kiera and clear her of all those "bogus charges". Here you have a man that shot and killed a young man in the back as he was running, and it took them how long to arrest the man in Trevon's Case. And they go up to t his school and arrest this Afro-American Young Lady right away. And charge her immediately with two (2) Bogus Accounts that she is not even guity of. Her principal is asking that all these charges be dropped. Come on Polk Police Department, you all know you have taken this way out of content. So I am here to sign the petetion and I ask everyone else that will, to do so too!
Kiera, Sweetie, I say to you. God has the Power, and you just keep the FAITH. To her Principal, Mr. Pritchard, Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant, Well done. "NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST Kiera SHALL PROSPER". By the way in this case the WEAPON would be the "Polk Police Department" To God Be The Glory!!!!!!!

Personally I think there is enough information out there for this girl to know what she was doing in the first place. Do some research, sweatheart. It was all over the. News about the BOSTON BOMBING! How do you think they made their bombs? Maybe it is a misunderstanding but still she should have done more research to know this was some sort of BOMB that she was making and not a smoke screen.

The kid wasnt making a 'bomb'. She was messing around outside the school, knowing it was going to cause a loud 'Boom'. People need to quit jumping to the absolute worst conclusion in everything, but she does need to be in trouble for causing such a scene.

Actually, do you know what is REALLY dangerous? 1) This volatile mix of fascism and PC - it reminds me of the time there were two boys playing with matches in an alley in Philadelphia - and they city sent out A FIRE TRUCK! 2) These people who are so delusional that they actually pretend to "know" what other people are thinking - and they take it even further - they think that everyone else will just go along with their police-state "telepathy", Speculating about what a public official...

At 16 she is 1/2 grown & there are high schoolers all over killing & hurting others in the world including our counrty. The offials can not read their minds therefore will not take the chance on hers. Again she should have done more research on her project and she would not be in the trouble she is in now.

All I am saying is, if she is old enough to know this was going to make a big BOOM she is old enough to do more RESEARCH to know she could be making a BOMB! There are a lot of teen agers killings around as there is, how are the police or anyone else knowing what she is thinking as I already said. She may not have ment to do this, but she did do this. And she will if not already have learned a lesson from this and will learn to do her resaerch more thoroughly next time.
