As an Air Cadet in the 70's I was truly inspired by the program. Started out as ground crew, moved up to flight instructor and tow pilot. My first paying flying job!! What a high! Now a professional aviator flying the fastest passenger jet...a Citation X. I am still on a high after over 33 years and still aviating. I love my profession. Mentoring and feeding our youth passions are the beginning of capturing dreams. The cadet program is a level playing field. Anyone can join with...
Anyone can join with out having any fees to pay. All you have to do show up with a passion. This is an open door for all of our youth to step into their greatness. It is so tragic that now even our government is no long thinking generationally. Canada as a nation will falter if we do not find ways to help our youth of today navigate a career path.
And CFI at North Bay in 1983!
Oh yes that too!!!
The gliding program has been of profound influence within our Hadfield family. Count 4 who went on to become pilots, and 1 who took his training all the way to space. My daughter has been counting the days until she is old enough to join Air Cadets. Without the glider program, Cadets would not be the same. How do I tell her that this wonderful opportunity has been closed to her?
Pat, don't let it become history! Write your, MP's write the Air Cadet League and tell them what you think.
I have worked hard as an air cadet to get a glider pilot scholarship, but now because of this, its possible I wont be able to take my cadets up to experience the thrill of an amazing glider flight.....the main reason I wanted this so bad was to teach and show cadets why flight is amazing and why they should pursue a career in aviation. What's an air cadet when you take away the air component? A group of hopeful youth with shattered dreams.
I feel exactly the same way :(
573 Andrew Mynarski VC RCACS is giving their full support to this :)
As an 825 RCACS ex-member, I 100% agree with this statement
I was never one for gliding as I have a fear of falling but even I enjoyed gliding days. I know that the Air Cadet Gliding Program is a great asset . I know many people that found a passion for planes and flying while participating in the Gliding Summer Program. What would Air Cadets be without the Gliding Program??? What are they going to do next stop Sea Cadets from Sailing???
This is a Very Important Program for the Air Cadets ... the Experience Flying , No Air Cadet should Miss ...
Save the glider program.
This world needs more leaders with integrity, a social conscience, community service at heart, strong moral values, etc. The Air Cadets Program fosters that in Canadian youth - poor Canadian youth. Youth that might be out causing mischief if not otherwise occupied with becoming RESPECTFUL CONTRIBUTING CITIZENS. SAVE THIS ORGANIZATION!!!
I have been living in Canada for the last 7 years, one of the best programs I have seen is the Air Cadet program, and the gliding program. my four daugthers passed through it and it not only builds character in youth but also gives them a great dream. it is the dreams of many youth and their families that are being crushed by the closure of this program. it is simply diminishing to our society
This would take the Air out of Air Cadets. Gliding must stay. I got my Glider license a decade ago and found Glider to be the backbone of flying. I am now a professional Flight Instructor with near 2000hrs of flying, all thanks to air cadets. Remember the air cadet aim. " To stimulate an interest in the air activities of the canadian forces". Removing Glider from goes against all main principles and mottos that air cadets first dreamed about. Thank you.
