Eastern Region Gliding School made me become a better Canadian citizen.
With no pretention intended, and professionnally speaking, i navigated through aviation since 1976 and always felt that i was one step ahead of many people in major part because of my participation to this program.
Now that i am two years away from retirement from aviation, i can only wish that some young aviation inspired fellows will train to take my place in the business.
The Air Cadet Gliding Program must survive
Wishing you all the best.
This is a great thing for our young people in our community, hope it lasts.
Keep up the good work. Air Cadets is great for young people.
some one should ask Commander Hadfield what he would think, he was accomplished glider. See where the program helped get him!!!!!!

As a Member of Air Cadet League - Ontario Provincial Committee; Mother of current & past Cadets I say HOW do you remove this part of the Program? Taking Air out of Air Cadets doesn't seem right! My Son is currently WO2 and has just been accepted in the ROTP Program and my daughter who aged out as a WO2 has gone on to become a CIC Officer and will join the Reg Forces after completeing University. Both my kids as will I always support the Cadet Program as it offers so much on so many different levels to everyone. I understand there is a financial responsibility but there are other places and ways that they can be more fiscally responsible without touching the Gliding program. Cutting the Gliding Program is nothing more than a quick and easy fix to their budget but this is not the right decision. On behalf of those Cadets that have gone through the Program and those yet to get there PLEASE rethink this decision.
Please share this on your facebook wall, and or tweet this petition. I was a proud Air Cadet from 191 and 177 Squadrons and earned both Gliding and Power wings before going to have a career as a professional pilot. It is shameful that this is happening when we see all the money wasted on those stupid "Economic Action Plan" adverts.
I was an Air Cadet and achieved the rank of SGT. While there, one of my favorite moments was being able to go on glider familiarization flights. If i was still in Air Cadets I would have definitely attempted to achieve both licenses. The ACGP is a tremendous influence on the lives of so many young people and I as a former Air Cadet would hate to see it removed. Please, Do Not Take The "Air" Out Of "Air Cadets"!
I was also in my seventh year and always tried to get on the list for glider familiarization flights every year
I have been asked to sign this petition, and I wouldn't have any problem doing that if I could find somewhere, either here or anywhere on the web where this is in fact "fact". Can someone put the link to the news story on here for reading? Thanks.
I attended to Mr. Colin Moore when I worked at the retirement residence where he lives. He is the founder of this program, and was very proud of his accomplishment and his continued involvement in the program over the years. It would be a shame to deny future cadets the experience that he fought so hard to provide for them. I know that it would break his heart if he knew that cancelling it was even a possibility. I hope the decision will be reconsidered.
I can not sign your petition about the gliding program as it is not accurate. The federal government has never financial supported the air cadet gliding program so they can't cut it. This program is funded by the league.
thanks for the info. i was wondering that too. however, in this description, air cadet league of canada is mentioned
You are inaccurate in your assumption... The Air Cadet League owns the gliders... the DND pays for the officers, the training, the fuel, the maintenance... they cover all of the huge costs... So yes they can cut it... they remove all the full time positions, decommission the summer courses (which they pay for) and effectively end the program.
As a former Air Cadet, I wold hate to see this program cancelled. It was always something that I had to look forward to, and work towards. It's really a shame that DND would consider cutting something like this in order to save money, there are so many other places that could have the funding reduced. The cadets are an investment in the youth of this country and cancelling funding for these programs is crazy. Why not cut somewhere else (NDHQ staff comes to mind), or maybe MP's or senator's salaries.
The gliding program has been of profound influence within our Hadfield family. Count 4 who went on to become pilots, and 1 who took his training all the way to space. My daughter has been counting the days until she is old enough to join Air Cadets. Without the glider program, Cadets would not be the same. How do I tell her that this wonderful opportunity has been closed to her?
Pat, don't let it become history! Write your, MP's write the Air Cadet League and tell them what you think.
