A lot of campaigns seem to oppose fossil fuels purely on the grounds of pollution due to their burning and the contribution to climate change. However, I prefer to highlight the problems that drilling for oil and mining for coal (and, in this case, transporting oil by pipeline) has on indigenous people, native animals, forests and the environment. I am against the white colonisation of Australia and the Americas and returned from Australia to my country of origin in 1992 and encourage others...

There are plans to expand a coal-fired power plant in Croatia that might use coal from Australia and I started a petition: www.change.org/petitions/plomin-c-koristiti-plin-a-ne-ugljen-plomin-c-use-gas-and-not-coal

Humans don't deserve this planet. The Climate will carry instructions from the Devil.

We'd be much better off with a moon-landing scale investment in alternate energy. Many more jobs would be created, the energy sources would last much longer, and more importantly we might be able to leave a living planet for our grandkids. I trust what the scientists are saying about global warming, I don't trust the propaganda from politicians and big industry backed "think tanks". We MUST break our hydrocarbon addiction. And it can be done in a way that increases jobs and spurs the economy.

it can- but I don't hold out too much hope as it might mean the energy companies not making the huge profits that they do at the moment- I personally don't know if global warming isn't a natural cycle-possibly accentuated by our actions in destroying forests and building over flood plains which is interrupting natural processes-(think covering the human skin with vinyl and covering both nose and mouth at the same time too)-in the Uk people don't seem to like wind turbines or the building...

Solar panels and photovoltaic cells do not seem to have ecological problems. They can be placed on house rooftops and also on other buildings. They look like black glass and there is no reason why office building walls could not be covered with them. Of course, they should be recycled at the end of their life. On the other hand, free-standing solar farms are a waste of land. Wind energy is not the solution because turbines kill birds. Biofuels and biomass can be even worse than fossil fuels...

Some good points, but like a lot of things, it's not always that simple. Studies show buildings and cars kill many times more birds than do wind turbines, and biofuels recycle the CO2, whereas burning hydrocarbons from the earth adds to global warming. There are no perfect solutions, but continuing to burn earth's hydrocarbons is the worst of the lot.

I Agree With You John, Renewable Energy Is The Future And The Job Potential For This Field Is Vast Creating Employment Just In The United States For Decades To Come. If We Stop Wasting Money Destroying The Environment And On Countless Wars Which Also Cause A Brain Drain We Could See Our Dependence On Fossil Fuels Drop Considerably.

Everything you said is great except for the phoney Global Warming, you need to do some more research on that.

Nina, I have done the research. Global warming is real. Here's a science based (not political or industry propaganda driven) article on the subject from today, as just one example... http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/28d54536-bd7b-11e2-a735-00144feab7de.html#axzz2TQfzQkxa

By putting more and more chemicals into our water supply allowing them to mix together causes a warming of our water supply. when chemicals get nixed together they produce heat. This is another way of producing global warming. Another words how many little poisons can mother earth take before vanishing.

The pipeline won't benefit the American public in any way. It will however make the oil companies more wealthy and powerful while leaving a path of destruction to our land and occupants as it flows!

well that is all 'big energy' or any of the oil companies wants more and more money- and they don't seem to care who they hurt or what damage they do to get it. Here in the Uk one of the big energy suppliers has been found to be avoiding tax- by using a loophole meant to help them research into renewable energy sources!

i agree we dont nd a pipeline.all we.d b allowing is these people making money while causing destruction and possible ill health to innocent people who live nr it .also the envoirement.if leaks do happen it causes untold misery for the people and the envoirment and also wildlife and fish..These oil companys dont care .its all greed and no concern for others who live and breathe and use the water which ends up polluted by leaks and spills.say no to pipeline.

One of the reasons I voted against Romney was because of his support to push through the Keystone pipeline.... And Obama supported his previous decisions to invest in clean energy.... But as Natives know...nothing said by a government official can be believed.... @jeremiah joseph, just because Christians believe in the second coming of Christ, myself being a follower of Christ, doesn't mean that we don't care about the Earth we were placed on.. Many do not have the respect for our Earth as we should, but we can not be thrown in to one batch.

In the words of Al Gore "if you take gasoline produced from the dirty tar sands oil and put it in a Prius, it will burn as dirty as a hummer running on gasoline produced from crude oil" talk about two steps back. But then again we are up against the religious peoples belief of the 2nd coming of Jesus, and that is enough to convince some to do nothing and that there is nothing we can do to help Our MotherEarth.
