We're working on that elsewhere with the Invisible War. Thanks!

Try preventing it instead... you're more talented at it.

First of all, there's no sound which is disturbing.
You shouldn't have picked an arabic-looking guy as the raper, it's not nice, they have already enough to deal with.
And the most important of all, no girl should drink this much. Everybody must know their limits and keep a certain amount of self-control. Noone is going to take care of us as a mother, we have to do it for ourselves and be able to use our brains at all times.

There's sound on ours? We agree people shouldn't drink too much, but you know I'd like to think that if I faint at the bus stop that's not an excuse for rape, just like being drunk doesn't excuse rape.

Arabic Looking I thought he looked French or just dark hair maybe your prejudiced already with stereo-types in your mind....?

Andrew you're right, and I didn't say it was an excuse for rape. All I mean is YOU have to take care of YOURSELF first of all, and you shouldn't trust strangers.
Darren, he IS Arabic looking and I'm not prejudiced at all as I used to have an Arabic boyfriend, we are still good friends and I have no problem with any race... but his look is a fact, it's not something that is reasonable to debate... you only debating it for the sake of debate, and that is called hair splitting.

Really? So basically your saying that due to her irresponsibility of overdrinking that she deserved it?

What I'm saying is it is never a clever thing to challenge fate. I think it's logical.

Her drinking is no excuse for the perpetrator, it's wrong to drink, but it's an absolutely different issue that must not be used in the context you are using it because it leads to blaming the victim. It's wrong to drink, but it's completely irrelevant here.

it´s complicated for strangers to say something, they won´t know if the couple is actually dating or even married. She could look that way at them out of drunkeness, right?

ONE..I HATE when people make comments/statements: LIKE..."She must of done something to deserve it"!!! NO ONE DESERVES to be HARMED in anyway shape or form!

Rapist have been known to spike drinks...watch your drinks...never leave them at the bar or on a table..take it with you, or finish it.

The rapist seems to have more rights than the victim...hence one of the reasons people don't report the crime!

You never get over it..! You never forget! You live with it!

More focus needs to be put...

More focus needs to be put on the rapists & not so much the victims! Most rapists have been known to have a history & have been in & out of jail before! Laws need to be changed to keep them off the streets!

Bars are not the only place rapists go! They can follow you home from work, stores, bars etc. You don't even know they are there until it's too late. They can be the sweetest most charming person you know! They can be a friend of a friend...they can be ANYONE!

First Of All If You Go To A Night Club, You Should Go With Friends. Pick A Designated Drver Before You Go. Make Sure You Only Have Two Drinks Tops For The Evening, Don't Leave With Someone You Don't Know. And Make Sure Your Friends Don't Let You Leave Without Them, And ONLY Them!

I would have stepped in when she started her 2nd or 3rd alcoholic beverage, it's okay to party, drink, and have fun, but you need to know when to quit, I would have also stepped in when he was coming on to her after seeing how wasted she was. I would have done what the friend did, and said come on, let's go home. I would have told the guy to never come near her again or any other person when they were that wasted. Here in the USA, if anyone is under the influence of alcohol or drugs and you have sex with them, even if you both were under the influence of something, it's still Rape. Because, no one can be in their right mind set when they are wasted or under the influence or drugs or alcohol to be able to make that serious and important of a decision. Also, you could see she was scared, so when you see your friend or someone who clearly seems like they are scared or uncomfortable, that's when you should step in. Also, if you came or went to something with people, you should stay w/them.

friends should see the signs of distress when watching their friend been taking away in that way, girls should be more careful with their drinking and they should be with other girlfriends just to avoid situations like that.

We agree with being careful but we believe we should put more focus on stopping rapists!

interesting comments from all, but no solutions. People taking responsibility for actions is the obvious solution. but it implies being judgemental of the victim too. Rape is morally wrong and an abuse of power exerted by the rapist, so perhaps the solution lies in education of the masses and raising debates as on this site. Politicians tend to give the wrong message about abusing power as they frequently do this themselves, Looking solely for Politicians to educate the masses is perhaps...

Most people dont have trust in their moral judgement nowadays, seems the only way they can help is to ensure sufficient funding is available to keep rape as a high profile priority for the legal system.

Thank you for sharing and I am so sorry for your loss.

More talk today on how women deserve to be raped ... I thought we were making progress on this subject, but the comments I have been seeing this week is from an uncivilized society of horror. Society has its work cut out to change this horrible thinking against women.

The threats are so horrible. Replies that have shock me. So many hurtful words, there was a message regarding a shotgun, in which the threat was made in my own...

The threats are so horrible. Replies that have shock me. So many hurtful words, there was a message regarding a shotgun, in which the threat was made in my own back yard. I never thought about harm coming to me because I live in a small New Hampshire college town.

I just read an article saying New York is redefining rape. I heard horrible words this week in which I have not heard of in a very long time.

Rape is Rape. Sexual assault is a newer word for this.

Bonnie, thanks and yes we are redefining rape in New York State. Rape laws were written last century when the relationship between men and women was different. Originally rape laws protected husbands and fathers from the loss of virtue of their daughters or wives!

I think that NO ONE deserves to be raped, REGARDLESS OF THEIR SEX, GENDER EXPRESSION, OR GENDER IDENTITY. Let's not forget that RAPE doesn't only happen to women. Although, we here more about women getting raped or assaulted, it can happen to anyone, regardless of who they are or their sex, gender identity, or/and gender expression. Andrew, what are the laws going to be now in New York?

What are you all Redefining it as?

Andrew Willis

The Rape is Rape bill brings New York's rape laws in line with the FBI's Uniform Crime Report definition, to include anal and oral rape. It also changes the standard of evidence from proving penetration to proving contact.

Effectively redefining rape as forcible or coercive sex.

Brittney, to your first point, I don't have a vagina but I was raped when I was 10 years old.
