Usually, "backyard breeders" are the ones you want to trust because they are small, local, and work closely with their dogs. Instead of limiting all dog breeders, they should enforce stricter laws on those who do breed. If a breeder will not allow you to come out to the property and view their dogs, that is a big red flag! Good breeders are proud of their dogs and want you to see how they live and work. This petition says that the main aim is to have investigations, but it also states...

This petition says that the main aim is to have investigations, but it also states that dog breeding for profit should be illegal. Which is it?! Those are two very different scenarios. I will not be signing this petition.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the term "backyard breeders". Most local breeders I know here in California take amazing care of their dogs and are top quality people with top quality dogs. Healthy and happy dogs who are loved, worked (in the field for hunting or service dogs), and ONLY go to good homes.

I kind of disagree, Yes it be some good breeders but majority are only interested in what profit they going make and not in the happiness of the dog. Its sad but real.

Yes, lets put this straight.... I work for a dog breeder. I have been in this line of work for half a year now, and, as I get to know other breeders by working for a breeder, I find that they all care deeply about their dogs and where their dogs end up. My employer will frequently lose a profit/pass on a sale because she does not want the dog to go to a bad home. Finally, she is always cautioning people against using trainers who train with e-collars (she feels that a dog should be placed...

Finally, she is always cautioning people against using trainers who train with e-collars (she feels that a dog should be placed in the line of work that it is natural with, whether it be hunting, therapy, spoiled house dog). So, while you may be correct regarding the majority of people being bad (I have no evidence to say otherwise) all the breeders that I have met here in California so far have all been very nice, caring people. To them, their dogs are family, not just a profit.

Backyard breeding should be illegal, period. Arrests should be made on a regular basis for those heartless, self-absorbed, pigs who do this without any compassion for the dogs. Sorry, hate people who do this...again, this should be illegal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is rediculous. The State Needs to BAN ALTOGETHER and punish the greedy subhumans who breed these innocent animals in their back yards simply to make a quick buck. These people are motivated by the profit and shows very little care or no care at all for these animals. Does any of those so called Governing bodies or some one who has the brains WHY & HOW they wouldn't understand these catastrophy created by the so called back yard animal breeders are the main culprits for the Mass murder...

These people are motivated by the profit and shows very little care or no care at all for these animals. Does any of those so called Governing bodies or some one who has the brains WHY & HOW they wouldn't understand these catastrophy created by the so called back yard animal breeders are the main culprits for the Mass murder of innocent animals each year in every State of the country? The Governing bodies has to 'Make sure' the Laws are been refreshed to match the current situations of the country's vulnerable Animals who are becoming total innocent victims and ultimately paying the prices with their innocent lives which they don't deserve to pay. These problems have been brought forward to attention of the authorities over & over again & again. But the people who are supposed to be protecting and supporting the voiceless helpless creatures are also need to be intelligent enough to understand and has to have the credibility to solve these issues. At times it does not seem those so called authorities have sufficient credibility to support the laws. ATAND UP TOWARDS THE RIGHT DECISIONS & BAN THE BACK YARD BREEDERS ALTOGETHER. Innocent animals are suffering & we the Humans need to help them...AND IS RIGHT NOW & A VITAL STEP TOWARDS SAVING OUR PLANET. THESE creatures all belong to the planet earth. Eliminate the backyard breeding ASAP.

I agree w everything your saying. U made a good point! About the authorities sometimes are the ones to cover up the crime. My friend husband works at a slaughter house and she told me how her husband told her when the detetive came to inspect they had a baby cow sick nd moaning of pain and the detective who is supposed to help said to just throw her in between the garbage to cover up her body and let it die. Its too sad but true.

The hypocrisy of our local councils to restrict the number of pets we can have even though they are in loving caring good size homes. But they so blatantly permits the mother animals with their large litters to be confined in filthy very small cages in these dam puppy farms. Where is the justice for our precious animals. I truly believe that only people who are used to companion animals should be employed in animal welfare. Animal welfare is not a business for money making, its a humane caring profession.

Obviously puppy farms are condoned because they continue to operate freely! Shouldn’t the RSPCA in keeping with its charter to “prevent” cruelty to animals abolish the operations of all existing puppy farms and seek Legislation to make these filthy places of desperate animal suffering and deaths to be illegal! This would be the decent correct steps that this animal welfare organization should take to end the continuing sickening cases of animal cruelty to mother dogs suffering from back to back litters causing rupture of their uterus, breast cancers etc, puppies kept in infectious areas etc. To crown this, these operators make profits but pay no taxes! Taxpayers meantime paid out for example in year 2010/2011 euthanized 30,300 cats and 21,600 dogs. Easy to work out the cost to
