It is incomprehensible that animals are abused and live in such misery in the deplorable puppy farms who are allowed to profit from the misery of these animals! The RSPCA is well aware that the conditions on these puppy farms are inadequate and dogs are kept in sub-standard conditions and bred repeatedly to their detriment with inappropriate or inadequate provision of food, water, shelter and veterinary treatment. The RSPCA is well aware that the conditions on these puppy farms are inadequate and dogs are kept in sub-standard conditions and bred repeatedly to their detriment with inappropriate or inadequate provision of food, water, shelter and veterinary treatment. This knowledge alone as stated by the RSPCA dictates the urgent need to abolish these sickening puppy farms and end animal cruelty on this front at least. So why isn't this done to reduce the increasing numbers of innocent dogs and cats killed every year in the pound and shelters. I simply cannot understand why these puppy farms are allowed to operate profitably when shelters are paying out rather large sums of tax payers money just to kill healthy unwanted animals! This is so absurd and lacks decency and concern for animals on so many levels. Where is the logic here?

Puppy Farms

Animal Liberation Victoria has been working hard for almost twenty years exposing the sad and squalid conditions in puppy factories. Our undercover rescue teams document their torment, despair and suffering then report it to the authorities. We also rescue any dogs in urgent need of veterinary treatment.

One-eyed breeding mother at a puppy farm
Puppy factories are a slave trade in dogs. The parent dogs are bought, sold and/or traded just like human slaves used to be. They are then confined in breeding farms. In Australia thousands of dogs are kept imprisoned for life churning out puppies to supply the pet shop and online industry.
Many puppy farms have between 200-300 female dogs and approximately 50 male dogs. These animal factories employ minimal staff to keep wages down and only feed the dogs once every second day.

Veterinary treatment is rarely provided, as this is another expense. Some of the puppies are retained to replace the sick, injured or old breeding mother

I agree wholeheartedly and I have raised this issue several times already. With this organisation its time to push this issue aggressively to the Australian government because this large amount of animals being killed daily in the shelters including by the RSPCA is unacceptable when the local councils have turned a blind eye to the number of filthy puppy factories operating under their noses. Sale of animals about 3000 on gumtree facilitates these sales without any intervention by the DPI...

Sale of animals about 3000 on gumtree facilitates these sales without any intervention by the DPI even though these adverts do not comply with the DPI laws for Victoria. There is so much wrong with animal welfare in Australia and the councils and RSPCA refuses to clean up the mess instead they find it easier to kill large numbers of dogs, cats, rabbits each day. This had to change now, its has gone on for too long.

Its shocking and sickening to read that some welfare groups have been fighting unsuccessfully against these despicable puppy farms in Australia for 20 years and until today these repulsive operators have been allowed to profit from their evil sickening trade with out any effective government intervention at any levels including DPI, Local govt and Councils. The suffering of mother dogs from birth to death often killed by beaten to death or from some other painful death somehow has never bothered the consciences of all those responsible for animal breeding in this country. I really don't know who are the criminals in this absolutely heinous industry, is it the vile puppy farms operators or the government offices responsible for this sector of animal management including the RSPCA?? But this has to stop, we are not in the dark ages now!

The RSPCA states that puppy farms describes situation where dogs are kept in sub-standard conditions, bred repeatedly to their detriment with inappropriate provision of food, water, shelter veterinary treatment! If this is the case why doesn’t the RSPCA in keeping with its charter to “prevent” cruelty to animals abolish the operations of all existing puppy farms and seek Legislation to make these despicable filthy places of desperate animal suffering and deaths to be Illegal hell holes! If this is the case why doesn’t the RSPCA in keeping with its charter to “prevent” cruelty to animals abolish the operations of all existing puppy farms and seek Legislation to make these despicable filthy places of desperate animal suffering and deaths to be Illegal hell holes! This would be the decent correct steps that this animal welfare organization should take to end the continuing sickening cases of animal cruelty to mother dogs suffering from back to back litters causing rupture of their uterus, breast cancers etc, puppies kept in infectious areas etc. To crown this these operators make profits but pay no taxes! Taxpayers meantime paid out for example in year 2010/2011 euthanized 30,300 cats and 21,600 dogs. Easy to work out the cost to taxpayers for killing healthy a
