Because cruelty to any living being is an abomination and people who are insensitive need to be woken up by a law against cruelty it seems.

Why is there even a question about this! All of earths "critters are more important than what humanity, as a whole has become! Present company excepted:)

From a moral standpoint, animals are alive, and feel, and thus should be treated well. From a scientific standpoint, animals form an important part of our ecosystem, and the way we treat animals affects that ecosystem, given that animals eat each other, thus controlling other animals' population, plus they provide an important food source for humanity.

For I think I can represent a nonjudgmental space for this situation. When you accept something fully, you are unstoppable :)

Humans can learn so much from animals - like patience, love and tolerance.... We need to speak up for them when they need help!

As we collectively move into an elevated group consciousness, it is the responsibility, and the privilege, of those of us who are perhaps a little further along the path, perhaps a little more Awake, to nudge of fellow brethren who still sleep in the nightmare of believing that they are separate and alone. For it is Only while caught so deeply iin such a detached and lost state that one can be capable of harming another, no matter What form the other might wear.

Another very important duty...

Another very important duty for those of us who are aware, and who care, is to be Very consciousness of our thoughts and feeling for those who are not yet aware, and thus do not care. It is very easy to look at a horrid image like the one posted here (of a group of policemen beating a dog to death on the street while a large group of onlookers watches seemingly passively, even interestedly) and feel anger and other strong negative emotions towards the abusers. Yet those feelings towards the lost version of ourselves cause just as much, and very likely much more harm than the original beating itself. We need to send Love to these lost and floundering souls, for that is very clearly what they most need.

I've had animals that were abused in the past and three of my current cats were abused. They are still so loving and trusting. I had a Doberman that was horrendously mistreated and would scream in her sleep. It breaks your heart but you know that people will hurt each other without blinking so you know an animals has no chance. If any one can help then we should stand by them.
