You guys are crazy. Do you think the RSPCA has the money and resources to house the pets for as long as they deserve? Have you been to your local RSPCA lately? Made a donation to them lately??? Most of you will answer no.. Well why don't you support RSPCA on making the change instead of criticizing them for the hard decisions they need to make. They can't save every animal and they do the best they can. Also a point to remember.. They are only human and this sounds like it was a mistake.....

I think you should all be ashamed for bagging out RSPCA when they do such a good job- better than you! Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

Im sorry Karen but you are wrong - I read stories every day from Rescue Groups here in WA who are full to the brim and get calls from people who have been referred to them by the RSPCA - who say they are full when they arent. I have personally called them to ask for help and been denied, and also referred to Rescue Groups- groups who survive mostly on the good will of their carers and little else. The RSPCA get funded and recently in Perth were given over 1/2 million dollars in a bequest...

Max is not the first nor will he be the last - until the dealings are made public and more people become aware of what they are really doing.

Do you know how much of their donations are genuinely used for animals? Perhaps 10%

The RSPCA has both the money and the resources. Have a look at their Government funding, oh and then have a look at the bequests. Yes, they do save some animals but they need to change the way they operate NOW.

Not to mention pet insurance advertising and so much more. I donate as well. Think I may buy a property to rehouse these beautiful critters. There is a pet for everyone at least four weeks of trying really hard for a new person may have been acceptable. Poor boy wouldn't have known what hit him going to such a location after having his own family. I feel sad. Very sad

YAPS may have a no kill policy, but they turn away countless animals because they do not have the room because of keeping the animals indefinitely. This is a 'rock and a hard place' dilema- what do you do? When was the last time any of you people commenting on this adopted a cat, dontated land to build new kennels, volunteered, donated - it goes on and on? This is not easy. And what were Max's owners doing deciding to go off travelling long term while they still had the responsibility of a...

This is not the RSPCA's fault....

Fantastic to see someone is willing to speak up. RSPCA receives Govt funding and many large donations. They are top heavy with Executive salaries and they do not provide the support that animals need. I am from Broome and we have just submitted a letter to the local paper pointing out that RSPCA has no presence in the Kimberley, all the animal rescue is done by the local rangers and SAFE Broome (all volunteers). Unfortunately the rangers and SAFE have no authority to enter a property when...

I am from Broome and we have just submitted a letter to the local paper pointing out that RSPCA has no presence in the Kimberley, all the animal rescue is done by the local rangers and SAFE Broome (all volunteers). Unfortunately the rangers and SAFE have no authority to enter a property when animals are in need. Recently we knew of a paddock full of horses starving to death. Unable to enter the property we called RSPCA to be advised they have no funding for the Kimberley.
To further insult the situation RSPCA also runs A Paws Walk in Broome and takes all the money out of the region - a region whose dogs are in a worse condition than dogs in Bali

The RSPCA has to follow strict guidelines in regards to the euthanisation of animals. If you disagree with the high death rate, instead of boycotting their fundraising efforts (they receive more than 97% of their funding from the public through events such as these) why not become a foster carer, volunteer your time to help at their shelters, spread the word about the importance of registering and de-sexing your pet so their facilities are less likely to become overcrowded due to the...

Will not attending the Million Paws Walk really help get rid of this issue, or can you spend your time more wisely?

Many of us do already. I spend many hours every week saving dogs & cats whilst running SoCares. Meanwhile the RSPCA killed 14,500 cts & dogs last year, made a $10 million profit, & has $40 million of donations & taxpayers dollars invested in the Australian Stock Exchange. So learn something about the organisation you're prepared to defend before you shoot your ignorant mouth off at people who know a lot better.

Not all shelters follow those strict guidelines. There are ongoing investigations in a few shelters due to their not following the euthansia guidelines. Boycotting and creating petitions can make a difference, I see it often. I agree with your suggestion of fostering, etc., but that is only one part of a solution. There are shelters that do not temperment test correctly. I could go on and on with documented situations where shelters euthanize when it is not necessary or against the guidelines.

David: I am far from ignorant when it comes animal welfare and the "business" some make it out to be. I too dedicate quite a lot of time volunteering for various not-for-profit organisations and I commend you on your work with SoCare. I don't however, think you need to be rude to others in order to make your point.

Susan: I agree, a few shelters probably do demonstrate a more relaxed attitude when it comes to adhering tho these strict guidelines, but the majority don't. I think if the community where more involved in the eduation of animal wlfare and took more responsibility for their pets we wouldn't have to deal with the heartbreaking issue of animal abandonement in such a difficult way.

I am curious, where do you think the cats and dogs that were euthanased becuase they failed their health or behavioural tests should have gone? (And I'm not having a dig, this is a serious question)

The sick and injured are just outrightly killed because they can't be bothered to spend your donations and government grants to treat them. The rspca publicly defamed me. I then investigated the rspca shelter with my work experience student that exposed real and extreme animals cruelty. The rspca had nowhere to put my wildlife. The wildlife were kept in hot containers, the possums were escaping from their containers when they opened up their windows just to be killed by each other or predators. To view ongoing rspca cruelty and see where my stolen wildlife ended up at the rspca after my property was unlawfully trespassed, work experience student, more live animal export cruelty plus which party is going to end unlawful violent killing of protected native wildlife and provide me with a public apology and the return of my wildlife alive, and back to safety + more please click on this link:

They don't the only thing they care about is making money. I have for years been pushing to give these animals away for FREE to suitable loving homes, but no, after for years they have defamed pet shops, trying to stop them from selling animals, guess what they have done in the ACT, the rspca have formed a parthnership with PetBarn and sell them their kittens, always only for money, it is always only about money, and not the animals which is why they were Founded in the first place.

I certainly will not support RSPCA for their dirty doings. For what reason do they want people to donate? It certainly is not for to save the animals. They are a highly rated animal kill shelter. This animals behavior thing needs to be banned. Even the most gentlest dog will have personality change when thrown into a pound in fearful and strange environment. Someone comes up with a stupid idea and for some reason others follow it. Max's fosters should have never taken him back to the...

You foster an animal because there is no room at the shelter for any more dogs. They don't babysit dogs at animal shelters, they kill'em.

I only donate to no kill shelters. I can't believe people will give away their pets just for going away on a vacation or to a different home. I would make sure I could take my dog everywhere I go. I would never leave him in a shelter. It just scares me to even think about it, because I don't know who he will get next. It's very scary. I hope I would die before him.

I only donate to No Kill Shelters. I was a Animal Cruelty Investigator for many years
I saw many horror stories, and people going on vacation dumping their loyal pets.
I adopted 5 myself. good dogs. people make me sick sometimes. I took a Dogue de
Bordeaux, A Dobermann, American Bulldog, and 2 Rottweilers, Great Dogs, they now have a home for Life. They deserved it, and all Canine Good Citizens now.

I am just shocked!!!! I believed the ASPCA to be good & NOT THE ENEMY being that you always see them rescuing animals etc.
Though I must admitt, I've never surrendered anyone I've rescued for fear they'd be killed. I've found fosters, homes or kept them myself.
It's horrible that even those who are supposed to protect the innocent victims turn on the helpless and victimize them again!!!!
What a horrible world!!

A phone call was made to the RSPCA about a horse running loose on a busy major road heading north out of Adelaide. The question was asked as to whether the horse was injured. The answer was no, not yet. The RSPCA informed the caller that they could not help unless the horse was injured. Was just a matter of time and it could well and truely have been avoided with possible injury to both animal and motorists. UNBELIEVABLE.
