Our distinct and unique native languages are the canvas in which we paint our culture, the individual threads of various colors that, woven together, form the tapestry called the human race. When languages are not practiced and passed on to the next generation, we allow cultures to die, and our children are left with a fragmented view of themselves, viewed from borrowed lenses, a view that is disdainful and soulless.
A language is the basis of communication. It is how we express our thoughts and ideas to others provided they can understand what we are saying or we speak the same language. We can become story tellers. Some dialects are being lost as they are not being passed on to the younger generations or another language has taken 'precedence' over them.
